The Gospel of Luke and Quirinius' census

Although Luke wasn't an eyewitness to our Messiah's birth, the story he had been told about came from a reliable source. Luke knew that the story was fully true and, thus, shared it with the whole world.
The aim of the following article is to bring historical sources forward that actually prove that Quirinius' census actually happened.
However, before we start speaking about the census, it is necessary to set the record straight about our Messiah's birth.
The elements provided by Luke clearly point at our Messiah's birth around Sukkoth and here is why:

  • Shepherds would not have been able to take care of their flock during tough weather conditions. The weather had to be mild.
  • High pregnant Miryam and her husband Yosef would not have been able to travel from Nazareth, Galilee to Bethlehem, Judea with heavy rain and snow on the road.
  • Logically, the Romans would not order a census, forcing people to travel on long distances from their hometown, when facing tough weather conditions.
  • Yeshua, our Messiah, who tabernacled among us, was born in a Sukkah, not in a "creche".
  • The date of December the 25th has been chosen by catholic church to align with Roman customs of Saturnalia and cult of sun god Mithra. Christmas is pagan. Back in the 1st Century, no follower of Yeshua ever celebrated "Christmas".

Still not convinced? Please check my full study here.

Luke's report

" In those days, a decree went forth from Keisar Ogustos to count all the inhabitants of the world. This was the first census taken while Kuriniyos was the leader of Surya. All of them went to be counted, each in his town. Yosef also went up from the Galil, from the town of Netzeret to Yehudah to the City of David and from his family to be counted with Miryam, who was betrothed to him. She was pregnant." Luke 2:1-5 Delitzsch Hebrew Gospels

The Gospel of Luke insists on the mandatory character of the census. Yosef had no other choice but to travel to Bethlehem.

Historical error or false calendar?

A lot of people, among them atheists, have tried to disprove the information Luke is giving us about Quirinius, stating that there were no trace of Quirinius during the period of our Messiah's birth. Well, the root of the problem lies elsewhere: many problems arise because of monk Dyonisus Exiguus' ( 470-544) calculation errors while introducing B.C (Before Christ) and A.D (Anno Domini) dating system. Actually there is a margin of error between 10 or even 15 years regarding Yeshua's birth year.  If we possessed an accurate calculation after the Hebrew Calendar, we would be able to know Yeshua's birth year with much precision.

  • However, we do possess quite a few, consistent historical documents related with Ancient Rome and the Jewish world of the 1st Century that confirm Quirinius' official position. These sources also provide information about taxation and census.Josephus and the "Jewish Antiquities": Josephus makes mention of Quirinius in his "Jewish Antiquities". The historian underlines Quinirius' presence around 2 BC. Here is a first statement: " Quirinius, a Roman senator who had gone through other magistracies, and had passed through them all until he had become consul, was appointed governor of Syria by Caesar and was given the task of assessing properly there and in Judea."
  • Another statement taken out of Josephus' Jewish Antiquities allows the reader to acknowledge the taxation system of the Romans:" Cassius rode into Syria in order to take command of the army stationed here, and on the Jews he placed a tax of 700 silver talents. Antipater gave the job of collecting this tax to his sons." (Jewish Antiquities, XIV 271)
  • In 1912, an inscription was found in Antiochus that indicates Quirinius was governor in Syria around 7 BC.
  • An Egyptian papyrus, giving direction for the census reads: " Because of the approaching census, it is necessary that all of those residing for any cause away from their homes should at once prepare to return to their own governments in order that they may complete the family registration of the enrollment and that the tilled lands may retain those belongings to them".
  • The following website speaks of two different censuses that go back to 48 and 104 AD. These are probably the censuses that followed the first one, that forced Yosef and Miryam to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem.
  • The historian Tacitus also mentions Quirinius in Res Gestae 10, The Deeds of Augustus Caesar: " A great crowd of people came from all over Italy to my election, more than had ever gathered before in Rome, when Publius Sulpicius (Quirinius) and Gaius Valgius were consuls."

Census from 48 AD ( image source: www.biblehistory.net)

"I Thermontharion along with Appolonius my guardian, pledge ode to Tiberius Claudius Caesar that the preceding document gives an accurate account of those returning, who live in my household, and that no one else living with me, neither a foreigner, nor an Alexandrian, nor a freedman, nor a Roman citizen, nor an Egyptian. If I am telling the truth, may it be well with me, but if falsely, the reverse. In the 9th year of reign of Tiberius Augustus Germanicus Emperor."

104 AD Census ( image source:www.biblehistory.net)

"From the prefect of Egypt , Gaius Vibius Maximus. Being that the time has come for the house to house census, it is mandatory that all men who are living outside of their districts return to their homelands that the census may be carried out."

We may not have all answers to the interrogations that may arise in our minds about Luke's story and Quirinius' census. However, we do possess some solid archeological proofs of the existence of censuses and taxation system during the 1st Century that even mention the amount due by Jewish people. We also know that Quirinius was actually a political figure of importance in the Roman world, who used to be a consul and who ruled over Judea and Syria.

On different biblical matters, archeology has always confirmed what Scriptures affirmed.
Even if Luke didn't see it with his own eyes, a reliable person reported the story of Yeshua's birth.

Let us rejoice in our Savior, for He has always proven to be faithful. Amen.

What the revolt of the Maccabees is telling our time

Jewish people are often hated by the world because they refuse compromise with pagan practices.
Although people of the world often show incomprehension to it and are reluctant to understand it, the Jews are set apart people.
Jewish people are the chosen ones to whom Hashem was revealed at first.
Hashem also gave the Jews precise rules and Commands they should obey to.
Assimilation is viewed as dangerous by many Jewish people, because it means disobedience to Hashem and death of the Jewish nation.

Over the centuries, Israel has been confronted with many invaders.

There have been violent attempts either to convert Jews by force or to plainly and simply annihilate them. The Shoah has, of course, been the most horrible example of murdering Jewish people, but pogroms have existed long before. Israel has overcome many battles that were merely about the survival of the whole community.

The courage of the Maccabee brothers against Hellenization

Although they are absent from the Tanach and most official Bibles ( with an exception for the Catholic Bible) because they are considered as exaggerated, the Books of the Maccabees are an interesting source of information about the historical background that opposed the Maccabees to the Seleucides during the 2nd Century. This exerpt of the Second Book of Maccabees (KJ version) will also allow you to understand how the Temple was being profaned and the tremendous persecution of Jewish, Torah-observant people.

King Antiochus Epiphanes' blasphemous actions went that far to sacrifice pigs to Syrian pagan gods. The Temple was profaned. Some Jews were happy to comply and adopted the pagan customs. The ones who resisted faced tremendous persecution.
Refusing to worship greek gods, Mattathias the Hasmonean ignites a war against the Seleucid Empire. Matthathias was a rural priest who served at the Temple of Jerusalem. His and his sons' zeal for Hashem allowed Jewish people to regain their independance.
For more details, please check the following resource.

A tyrant named Antiochus Ephinanes, Greek emperor of the Seleucides was determined to eradicate Judaism from the landscape by forcing Jews into Hellenization. People were forced to abandon specific customs such as circumcision, Shabbat-keeping and kosher food laws. If they persisted, they were killed in a very cruel and horrific way.

On a side note and very interestingly in our times while Unesco is making tremendous devilish moves to deny Jerusalem its Jewish history and roots, a bronze coin dating to the era of the Maccabees revolt resurfaced.

Assimilation proceeds from the spirit of the antechrist

If you have been taught that, when a Jewish person accepts Yeshua our Messiah, this person stops being Jewish, then you have been fooled into an erroneous teaching.

Also do not waste your time trying to justify it by bringing some elements of Pauline doctrine forward.  Yeshua is the highest authority in spiritual matters. He's the Messiah, remember?

Yeshua our Messiah clearly stated:

" Do not think that I have come to revoke the Written Law ( Torah) or the Prophets. I have not come to revoke but to fulfill." Matthew 5:17

Our Lord insists that the one who  cancels Hashem's Command and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven.

"So anyone who breaks one of the least of these Commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven."

Yeshua's words have AUTHORITY over anybody else's. Yeshua clearly pointed out " not even a kotz of a yod" would fall away from the Torah! What else do you want to be convinced of the validity of the Torah? Our Messiah is pro-Torah, please read my full study. on this precise topic.

Anybody attempting to rob a Jewish person from her Jewishness is committing a BIG sin in the eyes of Hashem. One main reason why our Messiah walked the earth is to show Isralites how to apply Torah correctly-with their hearts. Yeshua never intended to start a "new religion called Christianity". He always taught Torah.

Significance of Hannukah: the victory of light against darkness

The spirit of the antechrist in the Temple

The first Book of Maccabees reports about a " desolating sacrilege" on the altar of burnt offering on the fifteenth of kislev (December):

"Now on the fifteenth day of kislev, in the one hunded forty fifth year, they erected a desolating sacrilege on the alter of burnt offering." 1 Maccabees 1:54

The sad episodes of Temple profanation foreshadow the venue of the antechrist. A spirit of dirt and destruction is already there.
In our age, we are facing it in the form of the New World Order promoters who are pushing individuals for unity in a false, one world religion. We have to watch the current events on the political and religious scale very carefully.
One should always be rooted in Hashem and heed corporate religious assemblies. Assimilation is on its way and many will be trapped by people inducing wars, who, ironically will speak of peace.

The prayer Al haNissim recalls Hashem's powerful intervention during the time of the Maccabees. Hannukah is a time of rejoicing, thanksgiving and praise to Hashem.

The miracle of the oil at the Temple

After winning victory over the Seleucides, the Temple that had been profaned needed to be rededicated. In order to be able to do so,  oil was needed for the menorah to burn throughout the night during eight days. In fact, the quantity left was only sufficient for one single day, yet Hashem allowed it to burn during 8 whole days.

This miracle reminds us that Hashem will grant us victory over our enemies, regardless of their number and evil intents.

"Not by force, not by might, but by my Spirit", says the Lord Almighty ( Zechariah 4:6)

Yeshua our Messiah honored the Feast of Hannukah

'How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Maschiach, say it now so we can hear it with our own ears!"

" It was Chanukkah in Yerushalayim, and it was winter time. Yeshua was walking in the Temple in the Stoa ( Porch) of Schlomoh. The Yehudim ( here: Judeans in opposition to Galileans) surrounded Him and said to Him: 'How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Maschiach, say it now so we can hear it with our own ears!"

Yeshua answered them:

"Yes, I have told you, but you didn't believe me. The works that I do in the Name of my Father testify of me."

John 10:22-25 Delitzsch Hebrew Gospels

Hannukah is considered as a minor feast, yet it is still of significance for Jewish people.

The Gospel of John reports that Yeshua went to the Temple.
Interestingly, it is precisely during that episode that people are asking: " are you the Maschiach?".

Yeshua, by operating miracles in the Name of our Father, brought light into the world.

Hannukah carries a Messianic significance, because it celebrates the victory of Light against the forces of darkness.

The truth behind Christmas' pagan roots

Foreword aimed at the complainers, haters and enemies of the truth

I am perfectly conscious that debunking Christmas' pagan roots is going to raise some huge controversy.

Don't read this article if you are not ready to accept the truth. Truth is truth and it will not change, regardless of your anger or your denial.
When you come up to me, showing great anger for what I stated, on the basis of Scriptures, it is not me you are attacking. The truth is that you are being rebellious to the Almighty and that you favor customs of the world before Hashem's command. Your choice. Also, be ready to bear the consequences of it.
Yeshua set me completely apart. I am not part of any assembly or corporate religion. I do not place anybody's teachings before our Messiah's. I will always place Yeshua's words before anybody else's words, be it a disciple.
I've been told that "I was ignorant of the pope and catholic church's teachings" and that "I was telling lies" for quoting the Bible when writing about Yeshua's mom. Well, guys, please report to the Creator of Heavens and earth next time you are dissatisfied with Scriptural evidence. Please make a complaint against me, that I favored Hashem's word before the pope's sayings and customs!

What Scriptures say about foreign practices

Many people claim to follow what Scriptures say. A lot of individuals actually quote verses by heart whose actual meaning they don't understand ( because they are taken out of context, most of the time).
The same people will also find a way to justify their pagan practices.

How does Hashem feel with celebrations He never ordered?

"I HATE all your show and pretense-
the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies" Amos 5:21

The Book of Deuteronomy clearly states:

"When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices/holidays of these nations." Deuteronomy 18:9

The "Christmas tree" is an abomination to Hashem!

Here are prophet Jeremiah's words about these trees, that are a very ancient pagan practice linked with idolatric practices.:

"The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead on the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me.
Do they provoke me?, says the Lord, do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?" Jeremiah 7:18-19
On a sidenote...

Interestingly, the prophet also mentions the  very pagan practice of " queen of heaven" cult. Roman Catholics have transferred this pagan appelation to Mary ( Miryam, Yeshua's mom in the Bible has nothing to do with this idolatry. Miryam was a Jewish, Torah-obedient person, who never claimed to be "God" or a "mediatrix" to men. Myriam praised Hashem and rejoiced in her Savior.)

Mary's permanent virginity has no biblical foundation! The Gospel of Matthew clearly states that she remained a virgin until she gave birth to Yeshua. Then Yosef, her husband knew her, in the biblical sense of the word. The Gospels make a clear mention of Yeshua's brothers and sisters.
Please note that the false dogma of the " immaculate conception" goes back to 1854 and is the invention of pope Pius IX!

The truth about Christmas, a festival that combines several pagan traditions

My question to all is the following:

"If you perfectly knew that a celebration is totally pagan and completely goes against God's will, would you still celebrate it?"

  • The Gospel of Luke clearly points at our Messiah's birth around late September-beginning of October. I've studied our Messiah's birth chronology based on precise Scriptural indications and also by taking the Hebrew Calendar into account in a previous article.
  • False assumptions about our Messiah's birth on December the 25th occured because they were based on the Gregorian calendar.
  • Because they wanted people to keep celebrating their pagan feasts, Roman emperors aligned our Messiah's birth date with some lewd, idolatric pagan festivals in honor of god Saturn and the Iranian sun-God Mitra. For more details, please check the following source.
  • Everywhere someone celebrates Christmas, you will see a Santa Claus. My question to you: is Santa Claus a Bible character? No. So why do you celebrate him? Why do you make your children believe that this fairy tale character is real and that he is the one who distributes presents? Please also note that "Santa" is an acronym for "Satan". Mere coincidence? I don't think so!
  • "Put "Christ" back into "Christmas" is a hypocritical debate: our Messiah has never been linked with the pagan festival known as Christmas! The first disciples of Yeshua were all Jewish men and women. None of them even celebrated our Messiah's birth. Christmas is not biblical-at all and you are not meant to celebrate it if you follow Yeshua our Messiah. Even Origenes ( who is far from being my favorite person because he allowed himself to remove the name Yeshua from Bar-Abba ( Barabbas), thus, distorting the subtle context of Yeshua's trial before Pilate) clearly said: "in the Scriptures no one is recorded to have kept a feast or held a great banket on his birthday. It is only sinners like Pharaoh and Herod who make great rejoicings over the day in which they were born in this world."
  • Finally, if you still doubt that it is WRONG and AGAINST HASHEM'S WILL to celebrate Christmas, please explore this very detailed resource about Christmas and its pagan meaning.

May the Spirit of Hashem convince you that Christmas celebration is a sinful behavior.
May the Spirit of Hashem guide you into true worship.
May your heart be committed to follow Yeshua the true Messiah of Israel.  May you be rooted in truth.

Thank you Hashem.

Lessons learnt in times of testing and trouble

If you are going through troubled times, this article is meant to be an encouragement.

Keep your head up!

It is commonly thought that, if you are a disciple of Yeshua, you are meant to be suffering. This is wrongly being taught in many assemblies. If you believe this, you ought to know that it is not even biblical! Facing trouble is one thing-suffering is truly YOUR choice. I mean, you are entirely responsible on how you react to an event. Of course, you may be sad and cry at times, but in NO WAY, you are meant to be sad all the time. This is definitely not the right attitude in front of Hashem.

The very truth is that you are meant to walk in joy and gratitude AT ALL TIMES!

Psalm 86 states:

"Make glad the soul of yout servant. For to you, o Lord, I will lift up my soul" Psalm 86:4

During each time of trouble and testing, you are meant to advance in joy and gratitude, rather than in complaints!

Pay attention to the following points

  • If you want to be a true disciple, you must prepare your heart to be tested. Your life will not be sugarcoated 24/7.
  • Yeshua loves you. Yes, He truly loves you like nobody else. However, if you want to follow Him, be prepared to live on the edge, very often. This is how your faith will come out purified and stronger.
  • The zone of darkness you are going through, Yeshua has been there already.  Remember " Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me." (Psalm 23:4). Yeshua is WITH YOU.
  • God's miracles and might are manifested in times of trouble. Joy and praise are speeding up your deliverance. They are the expression of true faith. Faith and joy go hand in hand together.

Give glory to Hashem. Keep praising the Lord Almighty. Remember that even Job, when he was plagued with all kinds of illnesses and hardships, refused to put any blame upon Hashem's holy Name. Job always spoke rightly of God, at all times.

Whatever you may face, remember that Hashem has a plan.
Expose Him your feelings, your discouragement, your sadness, but then come back to glorifying and praising His holy Name!

May Yeshua our Messiah help you keep up the right spirit of joy within your soul.
Remember: Yeshua overcame the world for you. His Resurrection makes you victorious.

Here is a video that will cheer you up and lift up your soul.

Refreshing words about the narrow entrance and the path of righteousness ( from "Heart of a Savior")

Come through the narrow entrance, for wide is the entrance and expansive in the way of “Avaddon” ( destruction), and many are those who enter it. But narrow is the entrance and restrained is the way of life, and those who find it are few.”

He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.” Psalm 23:3

Yeshua shared these words of wisdom with me this morning:

Numerous are the ones who speak about the narrow path, but in their actions they openly reject it. Psalm 23 clearly states “He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake”. Any true disciple will be accompanied to the narrow entrance, this is truly what he will be shown. Many will use pretexts to avoid an exiguous entry, because they are scared of the lack of compromise when they are meant to follow me. They will realize that it will be high time to give up lies that arrange them.

A popular, diluted, worldly version of the Messiah is largely displayed, but this is not who I am.
Not everybody is ready to make the effort to willingly choose the narrow path, like this young, rich man who wouldn't abandon his numerous goods.
The Hebrew word “Petach”, which carries the meaning of doorway or entrance also contrains some precious teaching about restricting and watching our words. By consciously choosing “ petach hatzar”, the narrow entrance, a disciple will also have to master the flow that comes out of his mouth.

Pe” is the letter of the mouth, “Tav” represents the Torah and “Het” is the letter of life and grace. By mastering his words and following the ways of the Torah, the true Talmid ( disciple) will be granted life and grace in a path of righteousness. The reward that is attached to taking the narrow entrance is bigger than the apparent sacrifice the disciple is making.
The Tzaddik, (the righteous), by definition, is set apart. Therefore, he will choose “petach hatzar”, the narrow entrance, spontaneously.

Do not expect to be understood by the world. The world will reject you. The world will persecute true disciples. You are from Heaven. This is your true home. You have been taken out of darkness.

You have a responsibility towards a world that is plunged in darkness and in perdition which is to restore light.
I am the Way. I designed the way for my followers. Anybody who would claim to reform my words in order to “adapt a modern world in constant change” would be found a liar before my Face.
I don't change. I am the same.

Following me costs an effort. Either you accept it or you don't. You are free of your choice.”

Leaning on the great Physician ( from "Heart of a Savior")

Yeshua heard and said to them:
The strong do not need a healer, but those who are sick.
But as for you, go and learn what it is that is said:” I have desired kindness and not sacrifice.
For I did not come to call the righteous, but the sinners to Teshuva ( repentance).” Matthew 9: 12-13

For I desire mercy ( loving kindness) and not sacrifice, and the kowledge of Elohim rather than burnt offerings.” Hosea 6:6

Shabbat Eve had arrived fast. I had accumulated much fatigue during the week. So I decided to lay down on my sofa to rest a little bit. As I glanced at my own reflection in the mirror, I noticed that my whole body was surrounded with a white, shiny shade of light.

Let go, child”, Yeshua said to me.
As I heard Yeshua say these words to me, I closed my eyes. Our Lord sent me a vision of Him walking with His disciples. The scene seemed to take place at night. Then I only saw Yeshua walking. As the King of the Kings kept walking, I saw His Face become very shiny. I was still able to distinguish his awesome traits. I opened my eyes again to close them again straight away. I started dosing, my body was sinking and becoming light as a feather.
I came back to myself as if I had traveled kilometers away. I could sense a smile onto Yeshua's mouth, although I didn't see it.
I started praising Him with a cheerful spirit.
Late at night I wake up with upper back pain and gum inflammation. I am in pain. I call upon Yeshua's Name: “Lord, help me, I do suffer.”
Lean on me, lean on me”, my sweet Savior whispers tenderly.
Yeshua's voice brings me back to sleep. The morning breaks out when I am opening my eyes again. I am healed! My heart is so full of gratitude and my lips praise Yeshua our Messiah who took care of my acute pain.

Sometimes we are facing extreme situations, so we may be able to recognize our weaknesses and our incapacity to solve health and other related issues. As I was facing illness recently, Yeshua insisted twice: “Lean on me”. Healing started setting in as soon as I accepted to let go completely and lay my health down into His hands.
Didn't our rabbi clearly state: “ The strong don't need a healer, but those who are sick.”
It actually takes courage t acknowledge our sicknesses and to leave them into His hands.
This must occur in two steps: not only must we be willing to recognize our sicknesses, we must also accept to let go all struggles and completely trust Yeshua's healing capacity. Bring your broken bodies to Him, so He will be able to repair them.
The Hebrew word “holim” for sick persons will open up on much richer insights than the English text. “Holim” also contains the root that forms “ holam”, dream. Both words are made of the letters het (in guttural pronounciation), lamed, mem.
Why are dream and sickness so close? Isn't this quite enigmatic.
If we consider that we have to be set into a “dreamy state” for our Lord to heal us, it pretty much makes sense. During this specific time, we end up worrying and let Yeshua take directions.
In a similar way, once we truly acknowledge our sinning nature, we can reach out to our Savior's heart.
One cannot insist enough that calling ourselves “ righteous” or “saint” is a form of pride in disguise. Many boastful people will think that this appellation is justified by their prayer rituals or by their outside behavior. The Word of Hashem says otherwise. Who is man to declare another man “ saint”? Who gave you the authority to call another sinner “ saint”?
A lot of iniquities have been committed in that way over Centuries. The Lord is going to set the record straight when He comes back. Yeshua is exhorting me to pen down these words for each and everyone to examine their actions carefully. If you are unsure if you are on the right path, check your heart: if it is filled with Yeshua's loving kindness, you surely are. If not, it is never too lare to amend your ways. True Teshuva ( repentance) is made possible by a change of behavior.
Yeshua is very willing to remove our sicknesses and to erase sin, but we must confess them with humility.
Another detail emerges from Hosea, Chapter 6, verse 6:
For I desired mercy ( loving kindness) and not sacrifice,
and the knowledge of Elohim ( daath Elohim) rather than burnt sacrifices.”

Loving kindness and knowledge of Elohim go hand in hand.
The Hebrew word daath ( daleth, ayin, tav) is also to be found in the Book of Genesis in reference to the tree of knowledge whose fruit the first humans ate against Hashem's command. The enemy led them to disobedience by wanting to be equal to God.
The daleth is the door that opens up the eye ( ayin) to the path of perfection that is symbolized by the last letter ( tav). The Tav also represents the Torah and the path of obedience attached to it.
Loving kindness opens up our hearts to the knowledge of Hashem. A true knowledge of Hashem implies obedience to His Commands.

From this path arises healing and deliverance.

Yeshua's trial: un unfair mascarade of justice

The holidays had just ended. I was back to school, aged 15, and  ready to meet our new religion teacher. "Another annoying guy...
